Room 7 read an awesome story about Dan the Flying Man. We decided to create our own flying people. First we had to choose a landscape and try to draw it the same as it was on the book. Once Miss Donnell enlarged it, we drew over our lines with vivid to make them stand out. We coloured it in using pastels, making sure our colours matched the story. Miss Donnell took pictures of us "flying" outside and glued them onto our picture!

2019 Art Exhibition
In Term 2 Room 7 have been studying native birds. We learnt lots about the kiwi bird and decided to make our own kiwi bird silhouettes.
First we practiced drawing kiwi birds in lots of different ways. Then Miss Donnell traced over our birds onto black paper.
We made the bunting by using cotton balls and dye. It was fun making the bunting because we got to use warm and cool colours.
Check out the awesome art!

Writing in Room 7
Delta you have been trying really hard in writing this year. You are enthusiastic about writing and always try your best. Keep learning your alphabet letters and sounds, they will help you with your writing.
This is a copy of your draft writing book, a book you write in independently twice a week. You wrote a fantastic story during our sticker writing session.
Your thoughts on your writing: I like writing stories about playing. I am good at sounding out my words.
Fantail, fantail
Yesterday the zebra’s read a story about a fantail who likes to eat flies.
We talked about the food that we like to eat and we made ourselves in fantails
with these awesome headbands!

Uptown Funk!
For our whole school assembly, Room 7 decided to do a dance. Leo's mum Claire came in and taught us some great dance moves. We practiced every single day with Miss Donnell. This is our dress rehearsal in the auditorium. We feel super funky!
Delta you did a great job performing at assembly. You showed resilience when learning the moves and you kept trying. You had great enthusiasm and did a great job leading your line down into the starting position. Ka pai!

Self Portrait
Last week Room 7 drew our self portraits. First we had a sketching lesson with Miss Donnell, learning to draw all the features on our face. After we finished our sketching, Miss Donnell blew our pictures up to A3 so we could trace around the outside of our features. Then we coloured our faces in using pastels. For some of us, it was the first time we used pastels! There was lots of colours on our hands at the end of it.
Miss Donnell helped us to trace around our hands and cut out our hands to glue onto the picture.
We think our self portraits look amazing. We love how different we all look.

Being a Bucket Filler

As a part of the Life Education Trust visit, Room 7 has been learning about being a bucket filler. The purpose of “Bucket Filling” is to improve social & emotional learning and understand that our actions towards other can have consequences.. It is based on a concept where we each have an invisible bucket with the purpose of holding good thoughts and feelings about ourselves.
Room 7 have been talking about what our buckets look like, and we decided to draw our buckets. First we sketched a big bucket in our sketch books and Miss Donnell blew them up to A3 size. Then we traced around them with vivid and added some pompoms, glitter and pipe cleaners.
Delta I was very impressed at your creativity with your bucket. You did a great job following directions and tracing around the outside of your bucket. It was good to see you sharing the resources with other students and giving other students ideas about what they could put on their bucket. I really like the smiley face and the bow on your bucket.
